The Department of Veterans Affairs Portland Health Care System
(VAPORHCS) is recruiting for a Chief of Emergency Medicine
Services. VAPORHCS is the number one growing level 1A tertiary VA
Hospital in the Nation. VAPORHCS consists of the main tertiary care
medical center overlooking the city of Portland, the Vancouver
Campus in Vancouver, WA, and nine outpatient clinics across Central
and Northwest Oregon. VAPORHCS provides a full continuum of
inpatient, outpatient, long-term, and emergent care, serving nearly
90,000 veterans annually. VAPORHCS is proud to host 12
national-level Centers of Excellence that lead research efforts
across a wide spectrum of medical specialtiesThe Chief of Emergency
Medicine Services is responsible for the clinical operations of the
VAPORHCS Emergency Department (ED). The Chief of Emergency Medicine
Services is accountable to the Deputy Director, Patient Care
Services for the delivery of high quality, cost?efficient, and safe
care while meeting or exceeding performance goals and doing so with
the highest ethical standards. Last year, the Emergency Medicine
Service saw 29,000 patients with an admission rate in excess of 20
percent. To accomplish its mission, the Service includes 17.8 FTE,
with a mix of 12 physicians, 4 mid-level providers and 1
administrative employee. The Department is staffed with board
certified Emergency Medicine physicians at all times. We seek a
board certified Emergency Medicine physician with a track record of
administrative and clinical operations leadership. Additional
responsibilities include support of medical education programs and
faculty research. The new Chief will have the opportunity to be
