*Job Summary*
Assists surgical team in delivering pre, intra and post procedural
care for perioperative, pain and gastroenterology patients
undergoing procedures at Skagit Regional Health (SRH) hospitals and
Mount Vernon Surgery Center locations in accordance with
established guidelines. Works effectively and cooperatively within
the workplace. Location/Department specific tasks and competencies

*Essential Functions*
PATIENT SATISFACTION - Assists patients, family members or other

PROBLEM SOLVING - Demonstrates sound judgment by taking appropriate
actions regarding questionable findings or concerns. Investigates
and follows through on unusual orders or requests for service or
information. Follows proper reporting procedures for actual or
potential accidents and/or incidents so follow-up and/or prevention
can occur. Records/reports the need for service maintenance or
repair of equipment and removes any faulty equipment from service.
Actively contribute to the achievement of Quality Improvement and
Lean Process Improvement activities. Consistently evaluates work
and determines if further steps are needed to meet organizational
policy and expectations. Takes initiative to do or redo inadequate
or incomplete work, even if it is not yours. Ensures compliance
with regulatory standards. PRODUCTIVITY/EFFICIENCY - Consistently
demonstrates the ability to respond to changing situations in a
flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as
reprioritizing work as necessary. Minimizes non-productive time and
fills slow periods with activities that will enable you to prepare
to meet the future needs of SRH (education, organizing,
housekeeping, assisting others). Exercises time management skills
to ensure efficiency in work completion. Organizes job functions
and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments
within established time frames. Consistently demonstrates the
ability to take the initiative to make decisions/choices without
direct supervision. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT - Attends required
scheduled in-service programs. Participates in continuing education
activities and obtains required contact hours. Meets 100%
completion requirement of annual mandatory skill updates. Complete
all mandatory learning requirements within required timelines.
Attend and actively participate in department, team and/or
committee meetings. Attends a minimum of 75% of scheduled staff
meetings and reads and signs all minutes of meetings not attended.
ADHERENCE TO SVH AND DEPARTMENTAL POLICIES - Demonstrates knowledge
and understanding of all policies and procedures and ability to
reference them from appropriate sources. Complies with SRH's
infection control policies and procedures including Body Substance
Isolation (BSI) and the Exposure Control Plan which reflects OSHA
Blood borne Pathogens Standard to ensure a safe working environment
for self and others. Ensures that SRH is operated in an efficient
and cost effective manner by adhering to SRH and departmental
attendance policies as documented on the Employee Attendance
Record. Demonstrates adherence and support of SRH-Wide Service
Standards and Safe Practices Standards. Comply with all Skagit
Regional Health, department and location specific policies and
procedures. PRESENTATION/STEWARDSHIP - Maintains a clean, neat, and
safe environment for patients and staff according to policies and
procedures. Ensures that supplies and equipment necessary for
patient care are stored in an organized and efficient manner.
Demonstrates correct and safe techniques in the use of equipment
according to specific product information. Follows appropriate
procedures for obtaining and returning or cleaning/disposing of
equipment and supplies. Participates in economical utilization of
supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and
safe manner. Clean and maintain endoscopic equipment and work
area(s). Disinfect work areas and equipment between cases.
Disinfect and sterilize scopes between each procedure. May be
assigned to clean and prepare stretchers for patient care. Assist
provider with endoscopic procedure. Assist provider with removal of
specimens. Separate and appropriately contain and label specimens.
Assist with repositioning patient as needed. Assist provider with
abdominal pressure. As requested by the provider, assist in the
advancement of the scope to facilitate completion of the exam.
Inventory control. Maintain current par level for each medical
supply for the department. Physically count inventory in each
treatment room and restock to par level on a daily basis. Maintain
ordering book to ensure inventory is current and in stock at all
times. Assist RNs with patient flow. Transport patients to various
areas with department or hospital. Assist RN with preparing patient
for procedure. Assist the Recovery RN with providing dietary items
to patient. Assist patient with self-care needs. Provide assistance
to department with chart preparation and instructional
pre-procedure mailings. Maintain ability to effectively utilize
Microsoft Office (Outlook) and department specific software
applications to perform work including EHR. Shift rotation between
Skagit Valley Hospital and Mount Vernon Surgery Center plus
scheduled standby and call back required. May include scheduled
weekend and evening shifts. Cross training between specialty areas
based on department needs required. Communicate effectively,
cooperatively, and respectfully in the workplace. Perform other
duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.
*Education*
High School diploma or GED required.
*Experience/Training*
Previous experience in healthcare field required. Previous
Endoscopy and or Ambulatory Surgery Center experience
preferred.
*License/Certifications*
Current American Heart Association (AHA) healthcare provider BLS
certification required. Current Washington State CNA or MA-R
preferred.
*Other Skills*
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
required. Well-developed problem solving and analytical skills
required. Must be able to effectively prioritize workload amongst
frequent interruptions with competing priorities. Knowledge of
infection control and appropriate use of Personal Protective
Equipment and anatomy and physiology required.
*Physical Demands and Work Environment*
The physical demands described here are representative of those
that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the
essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of
this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This
position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending,
kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The
employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing
over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job
include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception and ability to focus. The employee must
frequently do physical repetitive motion.
